Sounded pretty good to me. Your playing right on the beat (to my ears), maybe you could relax a bit more, but it sounds very good the way it is. I'm just listening to it through my speakers at rather low volume and the recording sounded nice to me. Classic Strat tone. You still buying the Jimmy Page Tele along with me when it comes out? We can choose a Zep' tune and do 3 tracks each Thanks, Jack. You're right, my right hand was tensing up a lot during the turnaround, and I'm not convinced I'm doing a good job getting the right relaxed feel to the upbeats the rest of the time. SRV used a circular motion with his right hand that I don't quite have down. My circles are too small--if I could get it wider the upstrokes would probably fall more on the back half of the beat which I think would make it sound a little less rushed.
JP tele is still on my wish list, we'll have to see when the time comes whether I can do it right away, are you going for the hand-signed model or the "production" model?
LOL, definitely the production model for me, and it will take me a while to save for it anyway. Maybe a nice b'day present in August I'd dearly love a hand-signed model but I'm sure anything from the Custom Shop would be way out of my price range. It's funny you should mention that circular motion with the picking hand, I used to do that but then spent a lot of time un-learning that habit because I thought it was inefficient. Ah, we do spend a lot of time travelling back and forth on this road to guitar playing don't we?

Yeah SRV Gad a train like motion I think the instructor from Texas Blues Alkey site had a free video showing his technique. That site has a lot of SRV stuff almost to the point of being weird. LolThat site was originally called "Stevie Snacks." It was exclusively dedicated to SRV and only SRV. I guess it takes a guy who's obsessed with something to thoroughly dig in, examine and dissect it. Anthony Stauffer knows every nuance of SRV's playng. He later re-invented the site as "Texas Blues Alley" and branched out to include other Blues players.

He has a lot of free stuff as well.

I even know that he was raised in a strict Mennonite community and never even heard rock music until he was like 18 or 19. I used to watch him a lot back when I first got into playing again. If I spent half as much time practicing as I do watching other people play guitar I'd probably be a decent player by now.

Watched one video of that guy, does a good job getting SRV's feel, and am familiar with Congilio (bought one of his Truefire courses, learned one "lick", then got on my current slow down and rep kick. The "circle" thing I got from watching SRV live at El Mocambo (sp?) video. I'm convinced, have been for a while, my RH is holding me back far more than my left (hence all the overboard focus on rhythm and the like for the last two years). I drove "back home" yesterday to visit my dad for Christmas, didn't bring a guitar so my hands have 5 days of R&R. Main guitar-reated goal is keep my dietary consumption at a level such that my arms will still be long enough to reach the guitar when I get back.

I meant to do this last week but didn't get it recorded until today. I think the tempo is around 95% and it's pitch shifted up to E natural. I changed backing tracks so hopefully the basic sound won't be so off-putting. Not sure I hear a ton of improvement but I like to think there's some. I tried to change up my RH attack chorus-to-chorus. Of course I was under the spell of the red light so several stumbles. As with the others, I just sat down and played it a few reps to give a representation of where I'm really at with it.

Pretty damn impressive there, Gramps. Timing is certainly not an issue for you. That turnaround sounds very tricky and your timing/phrasing is spot on.
Your process of getting a phrase down as close to perfect as possible at a slow tempo and then gradually increasing the tempo is lesson for all of us to pay attention to because it works every time.
Wow, Rich, Jack and Grampa all uploaded recordings this week. You guys are shaming me.

Thanks, guys. I'd actually been paying more attention these last few weeks to the rhythm pattern than the single note line at the end. Regarding that turnaround lick my main frustration is that I don't keep a steady volume and sometimes seem to fade a little. But it wasn't so long ago I believed I'd never be able to play it at all so I can't complain too much. The rhythm pattern still vexes me but I'm getting closer. Slow repetitions were a big part, but for me equally important was doing those slow repetitions along with the recording. I needed the constant feedback to hone in on it. Hopefully that won't always be the case and I can improve my memory.
